§ 6-41. Authorization.

  • The board shall have the authority to:

    (1)

    Adopt rules for the conduct of its hearings.

    (2)

    Subpoena alleged violators and witnesses to its hearings. Subpoenas may be served by the sheriff or as otherwise provided by law.

    (3)

    Subpoena evidence to its hearing.

    (4)

    Take testimony under oath.

    (5)

    Suspend and revoke local and registered licenses.

    (6)

    Determine whether cited violations occurred.

    (7)

    Determine whether a reasonable time period for compliance was given.

    (8)

    Assess and order the payment of civil penalties and administrative costs as provided under this chapter.

    (9)

    Impose liens as provided herein.

    (10)

    Award restitution to the aggrieved party.

    (11)

    Issue orders having the force of law to command whatever steps are necessary to bring a violation into compliance.

    (12)

    Deny, suspend, or revoke the authority of state certified contractors to obtain a building permit or limit such authority to obtaining a permit(s) with specific conditions.

    (13)

    Recommend disciplinary actions to the department of business and professional regulations.

    (14)

    Hear appeals from any decision of the building official or designee.

    (15)

    Impose disciplinary actions on locally licensed contractors.
