§ 4-37. Impoundment, quarantine when suspected of having rabies.
(a)
Any rabies-susceptible animal suspected of having rabies shall be impounded and placed in quarantine at the owner's expense at a place designated by the Florida Department of Health in Lake County or, in the event the State lacks jurisdiction over the incident, the Director, or placed at the owner's expense in the custody of a licensed veterinarian. The period of impoundment or custody shall be based on the incubation period for rabies in the species of animal concerned.
(b)
Any rabies-susceptible animal bitten by a known rabid animal shall be placed under the surveillance of the Florida Department of Health in Lake County, or its authorized representative, and shall be handled pursuant to state law and the Florida Department of Health rules and regulations.
